Karl's B-day
03.2011Karl turned 39 a week ago and seems to take it well. Guess, age is only a number and what matters most is how life is lived. Happy birthday, apa - nampyeon! A cake was purchased so that the kids associate birthdays with cake and candles. It was a sweet delight.

Spring Fashion in Blue
05.2011Taking no chances weather-wise (rain in the forecast for the weekend), we seized the opportunity and did a photo shoot of the kids wearing their latest spring threads, then ventured out to Dorothy B. Oven Park for picnic and hiking. After their afternoon siesta, as promised, we stopped by Tom Brown Park for the slides and jungle gym.

July 4th Weekend
07.2011Julian, Kate and Luke (cousins from Gulfport) visited Jed, June and Priya in Tallahassee with Uncle Lee, Lola and Lolo, the weekend of July 4th. The weekend was packed with kid activities which included play time at Tom Brown Park, swimming and celebrating three birthdays. For once food portions were "just right" for each meal. The kids had a blast being silly and all. And, when you thought it would never end, it did, with a loud snore (let's just say, everyone had a good night's sleep).

Jed Turns 4
07.2011Birthdays are supposed to be festive, fun and filled with smiles. The celebrant is the star of the show and king for that day. He selects the theme from napkins, utensils, cups and cake. And, surrounded by his friends (and teachers). Days leading to his party, Jed was lively, energetic and so talkative; but on that very moment, not an emotion from the birthday boy. Overall, we think the party was a success (though we would have wanted a smile from Jed). Theme this year was Cars 2.

Only 2 of Us
08.2011A recent family photo of us five. We took advantage of a Groupon coupon deal which offered a major discounted rate at a local photography studio. Though the photos turned out good, we had hoped to get a better deal with digital copies of the photos. Normally, we would have a good dozen photos to show, but this time…only 2.

Pumpkin Patch
10.2011Each year the corner church at Mahan and Capital Circle sets up a Pumpkin Patch for the kids and to raise funds for mission trips. There were pony rides, balloons and food. We go to the patch yearly as we get to capture and compare (from previous years) how the kids have grown or how Young-Suk and I have aged. A breeze kept the temperature at a cool 62 degrees that day.

Halloween
10.2011Kids dressed up in their costume in the annual Scottsdale Academy Halloween parade. This year Jed opted for his favorite robot, autobots leader, Optimus Prime while June and Priya dressed up as Gnomeo and Juliet (Karl's choice). We were unable to find a Juliet costume that was the right fit for Priya; therefore, her skirt appears to be a mini (not intended). June's costume was a total hoot. Anxious to see him with fuller hair, well...the Gnomeo outfit did the trick. You have got to see it!

Jacksonville Zoo
10.2011We took a family road trip to Jacksonville (JAX) Zoo. This attraction is definitely worth visiting and revisiting. Note to self, need zoom lens and camera hood. The drive took about two and half hours (same length as the movie Tangled and a couple episodes of YoGabbaGabba). Once at the zoo, finding parking was easy. I think the design of the zoo (including the parking lot) revolved around the word 'loop'. You followed a path in the parking lot which led you the next available spot. You looped around exhibits. There was even a train ride which looped around the zoo. We had a great time. The kids' expressions and reactions to these animals existing beyond picture and story books were simply a joy to watch.

Tally Museum
11.2011With Halloween done and blessed with perfect, warm weather we decided to visit the Tally Museum early in the morning. The museum was near empty with only a few moms and dads with their kids strolling through the wooden trails, enjoying the exhibits and discovering new ones such as the prehistoric metal dinosaurs. The cool morning breeze brought with it the scent of chai cinnamon baked cookies which caught Karl's attention immediately (just as kryptonite is superman's weakness, cookies are Karl's). Like the toucan in the fruit loops kids commercial following his nose to those tasty fruit loops, Karl followed his nose to those freshly baked cookies - a yummy delight to end a relaxing and fun filled time at the museum.

Disney World
11.2011The long anticipated family trip has finally arrived — Disney World, here we come! We stayed at the Coronado Springs Resort for four nights and visited Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom and Downtown Disney. We mostly dined out at downtown Orlando (restaurants along Colonial Avenue, Exit 83A off Hwy 4) for Dim Sum, Vietnamese and Korean.
Things learned from the trip:
1. Orlando traffic is horrendous (driving 16 miles to downtown took 45 minutes to an hour any time of the day)
2. Increase cardio and strength training prior to the trip (as three kids, strollers, backpack and camera will test your endurance and fitness)
3. Consider bringing a leash for each kid, preferably with an auto retract feature (as you will want it – trust me.)Overall, we had a blast!

Priya & June Turned 2
11.2011Priya and June turned 2 years old today. Their birthday was celebrated at home with ice cream cake and power rangers. The balloons are courtesy of mommy and daddy (personally inflating all 10 balloons, the "old fashion way"). Jed helped by blowing the candles. All kids had a great time in the party.

Oven Park
12.2011We visited Oven Park a few days before Christmas for the 'Elves Parade'. The number of folks who came was incredible. Amazingly, we were able to find parking at the church next door and the crowd was orderly. The wait to see Santa was long and once it was our turn, June and Priya were frightened by this long bearded man. Only Jed took photos with Santa this year. I wonder if he was naughty or nice...

Christmas
12.2011This was the first Christmas we celebrated with a tree - real one too. Getting it to stand perfectly straight was a challenge. We relied on the corner walls to prop it up. The kids enjoyed decorating it with ornaments. We loved the scent of the tree which permeated throughout the house. And, the shedding of needles was not as bad as we were told. However, I think for the following years to come, we will be investing on a good faux tree with built in lights that sets up in a minute or two and a can of 'fresh pine tree' scent. Santa overslept that evening and failed to drop of the gifts under the tree. However, thanks to Mrs. Santa, issue was resolved by diverting the kids to the room, allowing Santa to deliver the presents in a nick of time. Merry Christmas!
