Monster Jam
02.2012Jed and Apa went to their 1st father and son monster truck event. Monster Jam stopped by Tallahassee just for two days. And, it was definitely not an event to be missed. Two full hours of monster trucks doing donuts, crushing junk cars and flying off the ground. The stars were Monster Mutt, Superman, Gunslinger, Grinder, Nitemare and Batman. Included in the show were ATV races (which the Georgia Team dominated) and a segment where two "autobot-like" vehicles transformed into a robot and a dragon and battled to the death.

Scottsdale Academy VPK1
02.2012Scottsdale Academy VPK1 had a Ball. Jed's class performed a few dances for parents. Apa did not know of the event until the day prior and therefore, as seen in the photos, Jed is in casual attire whereas his partner, Madison is dressed in a formal gown. Overall, Jed had a great time showing his "new steps" to Oma (Korean for 'mother').

MagLab Open House
02.2012Believe it or not, Florida State University (FSU) has the largest magnet in the world. The National High Magnetic Field Laboratory or 'MagLab', as they call it, here in Tally had an Open House. FSU students showcased their research and performed demonstrations. However, no doubt, the main attractions (for the kids) were the Einstein ice cream (created with liquid nitrogen) and the fire truck.

Funstation
02.2012When it gets hot in Tally as it did one weekend, we head indoors where it's cool, like Funstation. The kids love the inflatables and Young-suk and I would be guilty if we didn't say, we love it too. The only place we found so far in Tally that had leather sofas and recliners for parents to lounge while their kids have fun and act silly.

$1.6 Million Grant
02.2012How do children learn to read silently? Study at FCRR uses eye-tracking technology to chart oral-to-silent reading transition.
Researchers at the Florida Center for Reading Research (FCRR) at Florida State University will tackle that paradox over the next four years. Funded by a $1.6 million grant from the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), the research arm of the U.S. Department of Education, a team headed by FCRR researcher Young-Suk Kim will examine a poorly understood area of literacy: the relationship between oral and silent reading, and how those skills, in turn, relate to reading comprehension.

40s Club
03.2012I joined the 40's Club. Hooray! Forty years, wow! Where did all the years go, right? Well, married with three kids, driving a minivan, working for a software development company and chillin' at Florida. I would say, not bad at 40. Being it was my special day, I took a break from capturing the moments and sat in front of the camera (rare).

Jacksonville Zoo
03.2012We visited Jacksonville Zoo this weekend (St Patrick's Day). Having been there once before, we had a strategy this time around on how to view the exhibits – ride the train to the back of the zoo, then work our way to the exit. It was sunny that day but not a scorcher as last year. But one thing to remember for next trip is to bring enough chilled water. Visiting parks is definitely getting a lot easier with kids wanting to walk – no more lugging around strollers. Sigh.

FSU Alice in Noleland
03.2012Weather on Saturday was touch and go, with sprinkles in the early morning, forecast for rain and precipitation at around 60%, we weren't sure if we would venture to FSU's faculty and family fun day, themed "Alice in Noleland" (instead of Alice in Wonderland) held at the President's Residence. But, we were glad that we did venture out, as we would have missed out on all the free fun. The venue included food, balloon artists, jugglers, music and games. And, as for the rain, not a drop…

On to Kindergarten
07.2012Jed graduates from VPK1 at Scottsdale Academy. He will be starting Kindergarten in August. Meanwhile, he has joined the Wacky Olympics summer camp at Holy Comforter. When asked what he looks forward to in Kindergarten, he responds with "I'm a big boy and that's why am going to Kindergarten." He has certainly transformed to a big boy and we all look forward to his other achievements...on to Kindergarten.
Congratulations, Jed!

Someone's 5
07.2012This year, Jed celebrated his birthday at home. We would usually have a surprise event at Scottsdale with his friends around; however, this year, his birthday fell after graduation. This year's cake design is Spiderman from Publix courtesy of Lolo and Lola. The party was short and sweet with lots of cake to last through Wednesday. In attendance were June, Priya, Mommy, and Daddy.
Happy Birthday, Jed! -
Tally Zoo
08.2012Presented with the usual choices of Tom Brown Park, Fun Station, and Tally Zoo, we elected to go with the less predictable and free option today – the Tally Zoo. We arrived at eleven o'clock and it took only a few minutes to break a sweat. It was humid and the air was thick; but that didn't stop the kids from running and playing catch. We were drenched with sweat. After an hour and a half, we called it quits and headed back to the van and cranked up the air…that feels good.

September
09.2012The September gallery contains miscellaneous photos that were not enough to create separate galleries. Photos range from storytelling at night with mommy to photos taken of the kids sitting on the sofa.

The Patch
09.2012Each year we visit the same pumpkin patch close to the house. It is good to see how the children have grown compared to past years. The patch is organized by the local Baptist church and welcomes everyone. They sell pumpkins of all sizes, shapes, and colors. On this day, although surrounded by pumpkins, the kids' attention were drawn to balloons.

Priya and June
10.2012Glamour shots of Priya and June taken at the Growing Room in early October, the photos were taken by one of our favorite photography studios in Tallahassee — A Moment Captured.

Power Rangers
10.2012Go, go, power rangers!!! Jed, Priya, and June are huge fans of the Power Rangers. They sleep, breathe, and talk like power rangers. At times, we even stop watching TV as the three can act out a scene from one of the many episodes. And, so for this year's Halloween costume, they all wanted to be a morphine ranger. Jed and Priya are dressed as red rangers and June is dressed as the gold power ranger. Note, the store did not run out of pink and yellow ranger costumes...on this day, Priya wanted to be one of the boys.

The Twins Turn 3
11.2012Priya and June are now three years old. No longer babies but toddlers. Priya is potty trained but June has yet to fully embrace the concept of wearing big boy underwear – what's the rush. Mommy bought a cake for their birthday and balloons. Publix says the cake serves 8 to 12 adults. Somehow, this was hard to believe as it was not enough for two adults and three kids. I think next year Daddy will be buying a cake that serves 15 to 20 adults.

Dorothy Oven Park
12.2012Each year the City of Tallahassee lights up Dorothy Oven Park with Christmas decorations and we always spend a weekend or two enjoying the view before everyone else in town swarms in. This year is especially enjoyable for all of us as we no longer need the stroller. Pushing the stroller over pebbled pathways with two kids was quite a feat. That weekend, we lazily strolled and reflected on the gifts that this year brought upon us.

Christmas
12.2012Santa stopped by at the Kim-Ozaeta residence on December 21st and dropped off the kids' presents around our 21 inch table top pre-lit Christmas tree imported directly from Wal-Mart. The kids were excited, giddy, and their eyes were lit. But after realizing that Christmas was still 4 days away, disappointment slowly settled in. They tried their best excuses on why they should open it early. They stared at boxes as though looking at it for long periods of time would somehow give them x-ray vision. However, we're proud that they were able to wait for four days. On Christmas Eve, the three kids sang their victory chant,"...oh yeah, we made it...oh yeah."
